Bryan C. Hondru
Chairman of the Board

Bryan Hondru is chairman of the HDH Group and is one of the original founders of the firm, which opened in 1982. Since that time, the HDH Group has become one of the largest privately-held, employee-owned insurance brokerage firms in Pennsylvania. Bryan’s career in the insurance industry spans over forty years, and includes work with insurance companies and national brokerage firms before founding the HDH Group.

Bryan earned B.S. and M.B.A. degrees in Insurance from the Pennsylvania State University. He is a member of the American Society of Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU) and has attained the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation. During 1999-2000, Bryan was Chairman of the Board of Assurex Global, the largest privately held brokerage group in the world, owned by HDH and brokers in 80 countries.

Bryan is married, has three children, is a past president of the Penn State Alumni Club of Allegheny County and was a Football Honorable Mention Academic All-American.

William Knox, ARM
Executive Vice President

Bill is an executive vice president at HDH and manages the firm’s Alternative Risk Department. He has over twenty years of insurance industry experience, and joined HDH in 1998 to assist clients in the design and development of alternative risk funding programs for insurance, estate planning and employee benefit exposures. Bill began his insurance career with the CIGNA Captive Unit developing creative captive funding programs.

Bill is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and earned his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation in 1993. Bill has been volunteering as a Big Brother for over 10 years, and he and his family reside in Mars, Pennsylvania.

Richard C. Atkinson
Executive Vice President,
& CEO of HDH Group Harrisburg Division

Rick is an executive vice president with the HDH Group, and CEO of the firm’s Harrisburg Division.  Rick has over 20 years of insurance industry experience, much of which has been focused on working with clients in the construction industry.

Rick is the President of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Central Pennsylvania, and was their 2008 Man of the Year.  Rick is a past Chairman of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, current member of the Shippensburg University’s College of Business Advisory Board and active with Junior Achievement of South Central Pennsylvania.

Rick is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Certified Risk Manager (CRM), and is a licensed Producer in Property & Casualty and Life and Health Insurances.  He earned Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Public Administration degrees from Shippensburg University.

Rick is married and has two children.  He resides in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

Glen M. Sandusky
Senior Vice President

Glen is a senior vice president and manager of HDH’s Property & Casualty Department, focusing on the firm’s largest accounts. Glen has been with HDH since 1999, has over 20 years of insurance industry experience, and is a member of the HDH Group’s Board of Directors.

Before joining HDH, Glen was with a national broker and managed a $3.5 MM book of business and supervised a ten person brokerage team. Prior to that, Glen was with another brokerage firm in New York City serving as an Account Executive, and prior to that he was with Aetna Life and Casualty in Pittsburgh as a Property Claims Adjuster, in New Jersey as a Liability Claims Adjuster, and in New York as a National Account Representative.

Glen earned a B.S. degree in Business Management from Penn State. He has completed many professional development courses and is a licensed Pennsylvania Broker.

Glen resides in Pittsburgh’s South Hills with his wife and three sons.

Matt Scott
Senior Vice President

Matt is a senior vice president with HDH, and has been with the firm since 2005 when he merged his own employee benefit agency with the HDH Group. With over 14 years of insurance industry experience, Matt focuses his efforts on developing employee benefit packages that leverage alternative funding methods and long-term strategic risk reduction through health and productivity management.

Matt earned a B.S. degree from the Pennsylvania State University. Matt resides in Stony Valley, Pennsylvania with his wife and three children.

Gregg Proud, CPCU
Senior Vice President

Gregg is a senior vice president at HDH and as Manager of the firm’s Transportation Department, he is responsible for the department’s day-to-day operations and client service. Greg joined the HDH Group in 2000, and has over twenty years of insurance industry experience that spans across many products including large deductible, incurred loss retros, paid loss retros, self-insured retention, captive, and guaranteed cost programs. In addition to an expertise within the Transportation Industry, his experience also includes the structuring of insurance programs for the manufacturing, healthcare, contracting, wholesale and retail industries.

Gregg is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he earned a B.S. degree in Business Finance and Management. He has also earned the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriting (CPCU) Designation. Gregg has previously served as an officer of the Allegheny Chapter of the CPCU Society, including one term as Chapter President in 2004-2005.

Gregg resides in the South Hills of Pittsburgh with his wife and their three children.

Frank G. Mikan
President & CEO

Frank Mikan is president and CEO of the HDH Group, and has been part of the HDH Group since its founding in 1982 when he joined the firm as a Vice President. Frank has nearly thirty five years of experience in the insurance brokerage industry, with particular focus and expertise in risk management. Prior to his appointment as president, Frank managed the HDH Group’s Property & Casualty Department. Frank is a member of the HDH Board of Directors.

Frank received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Duquesne University.

Kathy Davies
Executive Vice President - Administration

Kathy is an Executive Vice President of Administration & Secretary/Treasurer. In this role her responsibilities include management of finance, human resources, IT and office administration. She has been part of The HDH Group since itís founding in 1982. She began her career as a Property and Casualty Customer Service Representative and moved into the accounting area in the mid 90ís where she held the position of Manager of Accounting Services. In 2004 she assumed the role of Treasurer and Controller; in January of 2011 she was appointed Chief Administrative Officer; and in December of 2013 moved into her current position. Her knowledge of Property and Casualty coverages and experience with the client side of Agency Management Systems, coupled with her accounting knowledge and experience, brings her a unique perspective to integrating the needs of clients with the inner workings of the HDH systems.

Kathy is a graduate of Robert Morris University, sits on the board of the JMD Cancer Resource Center and is a member of The HDH Group Board of Directors. She has two grown sons and resides with her husband in Munhall, Pennsylvania.

Anthony J. Kocis, AAI
Executive Vice President

Tony is an executive vice president at HDH and is the Director of the firm’s Transportation Department, which delivers specialized insurance services for the firm’s transportation clients. Tony began his insurance career over twenty years ago with an insurance company as a marketing representative concentrating in the transportation and energy industries. After years of insurance brokerage experience, Tony joined HDH in 1993. Tony is a member of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association, and is a member of the HDH Group’s Board of Directors.

Tony earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Youngstown State University in 1987. In 1991, he attained the Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) designation and has currently completed 50% of the Chartered Property/Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Program.

Tony is married and has two children. He lives in Center Township, Beaver County.

James F. Cuff, Jr.
Executive Vice President

Jim is an executive vice president with the HDH Harrisburg Division and has more than twenty five years of senior management experience in the insurance industry. In addition to his involvement with various insurance industry advisory boards, he has served on international industry boards including the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers and the ACORD board of directors, for which he previously served as chairman.

Jim earned a B.S. degree in Marketing and Retail Management from Drexel University. He holds several industry designations including Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Risk Manager (CRM) and a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

Jim and his family reside in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Chet Rhoads
Executive Vice President

Chetís role at HDH involves the development of benefit programs that protect mid-to-large-size employersí balance sheets and human capital. His extensive advisory experience helps employers to implement initiatives that prevent, mitigate, transfer, or finance claims. This includes, but is not limited to, consortiums, alternative financing methods and population health management. Chet has proven experience with the consolidation of risk pools, working with companies with multiple state footprints, and developing programs that keep employees healthy and productive.

Before joining HDH in 1993, Chet first started his career in the insurance industry with The Equitable Life Assurance Company in the individual and pension areas. He later joined Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania as a group account manager and was responsible for group employee benefit development for mid to large size commercial accounts. Chet has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Duquesne University with a major in Human Resources and Marketing, He has also achieved a National Association of Security Dealers (NASD) designation.

Chet is married with children and resides in Venetia, Pennsylvania.

Barbara A. McGinley
Senior Vice President

Barb joined HDH in 2006. She is a Senior Vice President, Manager of the Human Capital Management Department and also a member of the HDH Board of Directors. She works directly with HDH Human Capital Management clients in managing their accounts. She brings over 20 years of experience in the Investment, Individual and Group Insurance industries. Prior to joining HDH Group, Barb was previously employed by Federated Investors, Mass Mutual and with a top producer group within the Mass Mutual Agency System where she spent eight years as a Group Benefits Account Executive.

A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Barb has a National Association of Security Dealers (NASD) designation as well as an Accident, Health, Life & Annuity license. She has four adult children and resides with her husband in Shadyside.
